Lyrics

I'm willing to fight, to die
I'll never shy away, I'll lay my life down for you
When blackened sky and soul emerge to capture you
I'll draw my sword, loyalty I'll prove
Mmmm

I did not expect to be spurned by your affection
My advances returned only rebuke
But still I find no peace of mind except in following after you

Oooh ahhhh ooooh
Oooh ahhhh ooooh

I was willing to fight but not willing to go quietly
As you were led like a lamb to be slain
When embers soared and seared and the moment was upon us
I denied my only love, my truest King

Ohhhhh ahhh, I denied my only love, my truest King
Ohhhhh ahhh, I denied my only love, my truest King. Ohhh
(I adore ya... you asked if I loved ya...
I adore ya... Lord, you know I do)

I did not expect the attack to come discreetly
Or the battle to extend beyond the brush
I ran in shame, I hid my face from the horizon of your mercy
Even as you urged me never to give up

I watched you pray!
I saw your face!
I heard the utterance from your lips
When I turn back after all this, I must strengthen my brothers
Over my failures, your love is an eclipse

Ohhhh ahhhh-oh, Over my failures, your love is an eclipse
Ohhhh ahhhh-oh, Over my failures, your love is an eclipse
Over my failures your love is an eclipse
Gallicantu

About the Song

Gallicantu is Latin for “Cock’s Crow.” The song is a reflection of loyalty & ambition, coming to terms with personal failure, and rejoicing in reconciliation and renewed trust, inspired by the story of Peter denying Jesus.

Artist Aly Aleigha shares her inspiration for the song came from the story of Peter denying Jesus in scripture, after which the cock crowed as Jesus predicted.

Peter’s story can resonate with all of us. After failure, all hope is not lost—our very failures can become fuel for the mission we are called to. We are still invited to live fully alive and entrusted with a unique purpose that the world desperately needs.
